Good End to a Profitable Month +455 pips

We had some profitable trading opportunities this morning and no tradable signal in the later sessions. This means that I can have an early break today ;-)

I will do a proper trade breakdown and analysis for this month, just like the previous month's report, for you guys to view.

Just a quick summary, we are up +455 pips on the major pairs during 21 trading days in March, with 9 up days, 7 non-tradable (rest) days and 5 down days. We even scored some handsome profits on a down day like this.

March was an extremely choppy and volatile month for forex due to the collapse of Bear Stearns and the liquidation of carry trades. Trading the major currency pairs appeared to be my safe haven so far.

Strong Start Monday

European Session

No. of signal recommendations: 3

End-of-session results: USD/CHF (+30 pips), USD/CAD (+35 pips) & USD/JPY (+25 pips)

Maximum potential: over 120 pips !

Own P/L: 61 pips !

All open positions had reached the minimum target level of 40 pips at one point. A 'golden' trading session which probably gave us a strong end to a profitable month !

Back In Action & No Results with JPY-Crosses Friday !

European Hours
No. of signal recommendations: 3
End-of-session results: GBP/USD (+5 pips), EUR/USD (+35 pips) & USD/CHF (+15 pips)
Maximum potential: over 90 pips/ even higher in the post-session hours
Own P/L: 11 pips

What an interesting session! The price action finally broke out in line with the predicted direction. I hope everyone did better than me.

Late Session
No. of signal recommendations: 4
End-of-session results: GBP/JPY(-35 pips), EUR/JPY (-40 pips) , AUD/JPY (-40 pips) & CHF/JPY (-20 pips)
Maximum potential: 0
Own P/L: No Trade

Yen-crosses pairs (carry-trade positions) are always difficult to get a result within short time frame. It was my objective to apply the 'newly developed' yen-sentiment indicator to trade the yen-cross pairs, but so far still without much success. On the other hand, the US sentiment indicator continues to outperform. Next week, I'll set a more restrictive entry criterion using the JPY-crosses indicator. Meanwhile, continue to focus play on the major pairs.

As expected, the top five performing currency pairs (since the start) are:
>> EUR/USD
>> GBP/USD
>> USD/CAD
>> USD/CHF
>> USD/JPY

No Stopping for EUR/USD & GBP/USD Thursday

Thursday

Both euro and sterling pound got bid further and further along the upward path. Based on the market sentiment system, we avoided some false signals in the London hours. Our sentiment indicator was proved right.

We keep our discipline and simply let the trading opportunities present themselves.

Yen-Crosses GBP/JPY & USD/JPY Finally Collapsed Wednesday

Wednesday
No trade

We stayed away from the major pairs today. But, we were ready to buy into the yen strength. The market sentiment was spot on and we would have been on the right side if there was a valid daytrading signal entry. On the other hand, the fast scalping strategy should do well in this market environment.

Update: There was no tradable signal for today. We stayed clear of forex market frenzy.

Oops. I gave back half of my last week's gain on this morning 'tricky' price action. My positions were briefly in the green before the price breakout in the wrong direction ! Actually, it was supported by the fact that we were going to have a lower-than-expected consumer sentiment number in the noon. Traders were already gearing for negative action on the US dollar. The sensible thing to do was to take losses at the end of session, which I did. Understanding the latest fundamental development in the market should help keep a trader away from ugly trades.

Late Session
No. of signal recommendations: 2
End-of-session results: GBP/JPY (-70 pips SL !) & CHF/JPY (-20 pips)
Maximum potential: 0
Own P/L: No trade

No results from FK today ! I think today was the first day with five losers all together. I skipped the yen-crosses signals in the late session.

US Session
No. of signal recommendations: 1
End-of-session results: AUD/USD (-30 pips)
Maximum potential: 10 pips
Own P/L: -30 pips

It was still a holiday in UK, but it was business as usual for myself. Looking forward, it should be another interesting week after the US dollar finally staged a strong recovery in last week. There was one short Aussie signal in the US session. After the better-than-expected US home sales data (which came out in our favour), weakness was seen in the euro and sterling pound, but not on the Aussie dollar. I had to take my losses on this odd-performing Aussie pair.

Here is another useful trend analysis tool, which shares a resemblance with my day trading strategy.

Smart Scan Chart Analysis (by Market Club) shows the current downward trend is at a crossroads and has possibly ended for AUD/USD. Look for choppy trading action in the nearterm Very Weak Downtrend with very tight stops.

Based on a pre-defined weighted trend formula for chart analysis, AUDUSD scored -60 on a scale from -100 (strong downtrend) to +100 (strong uptrend):

Q & A : Forex AutoPilot EA Trade Exit & Monthly Performance

From TJ :
Marcus says that Forex AutoPilot (FAP) has some internal indicators to close losing trades but surely 500pips should be enough to close a bad trade?

My initial thought:
System drawdown is always a concern in every expert advisor system. Unfortunately, I have no further clue about the FAP's trade exit mechanism. Perhaps, we should forward your query to Marcus. By the way, using SL parameter is the only sure choice to exit the trade at predefined risk limit.

FAP support team's reply:
Yes, like all systems, it sometimes make losing trades. Only 4% of losing trades according to history. 96% winners. Recommend this reader to perform backtests to understand how the system works. The system will stay in loss until it finds a signal to close trade. If it does not happen (no market condition to reverse the trend) then the system will close the losing trade on 1st of april.

My second thought:

It only occurs to me now that the Forex Autopilot system will automatically reset itself when a new month begins, i.e. all open positions in the previous month will be closed. This should make things easy and interesting. So, let's study its past performance on a monthly basis.

The following monthly results are based on a starting balance of $1000, lot size = 0.1 and TP = 20 pips for every month:

Jan 08: 17 trades /16 winners +275 pips or +$275 (+27%)

Feb 08: 21 trades /20 winners +378 pips or +$385 (+38%)

Mar 08: 41 trades /40 winners +674 pips or +$680 (+68%)

Apr 08: 13 trades /12 winners -149 pips or -$140 (-14%)
May 08: 7 trades /6 winners +31 pips or +$23 (+2.3%)
Jun 08: 13 trades /12 winners +160 pips or +$169 (+16.9%)

Jul 08: 16 trades/ 15 winners +126 pips or $119 (+11.9%)

Aug 08: 4 trades /3 winners -779 pips or -$776 (-77.6%)
Sep 08: 12 trades /11 winners -523 pips or -$543 (-54.4%)

Oct 08: 5 trades /4 winners +40 pips or +$40 (+4%) - updated 1 Oct
(Members are asked to redownload the new FAP robot from the membership page asap.)

Balancing the system drawdown and understanding the system potential is the key of using the Forex Autopilot ea. Therefore, more backtest plus forward monthly results (hopefully to be used as benchmark) will be added here for reference.

Failed to Trigger - Thursday

Thursday

Yen-crosses plummeted, however there was no tradable signal from the fk signal software. Speaking from my past experience, the version 1 software might perform better in day like this when market strength begets strength.

There will be no signal tomorrow due to Easter holiday. I will still update the market sentiment table as usual.

The system is still underperformed with the yen-crosses pairs. See reason why here.

Anyhow we had a FED interest rate decision in this late session. Using the suggested stop loss, the EUR/JPY position was already stopped out before the announcement. I held my own positions thru the news releases (with a bigger drawdown !) , but quickly exited for small gains as soon as they went my way ! A scary episode to end the day...

New Member Testimonial: From Zeljko

Hi Lloyd,

Well, I dont know what to say, but thank you. Last night, (00:00 London time) I made calculation following your FK day trading advice, got the tradable signal, fall asleep, and this morning, I had 70 pips more on my acc.

This morning, I didnt want to risk too much, and made modest 30 pips:) and all this by just following your advices, and in less than one day period.

So, thanx again, and if I may say so, keep up the great work.

P.S. you may freely use this mail for your blog. I think this is the one of the few rare blogs about FK and forex trading which can really be useful for all forex traders, and especially for us beginners.

'Automation' doesn't have to be a computer entering your trades - you can also follow my day trading system to streamline your trading routine and become a more efficient and systematic trader.

Here is an overview of my day trading routine for your reference:

Technical Help (2): Forex AutoPilot EA

Latest Update: Great news, guys ! You can now use these e-mail addresses (here and here) to reach Marcus and support team 'faster'. In addition, the technical problem surrounding the forexautopilot EA has been resolved via the latest EA update. In the mean time, you can also check out this latest performance report from the forexautopilot trading team.

(Originally posted on ScoutForex main site)

Due to the recent program reliability issues (i.e. EA inactivity and Invalid price error_129), Marcus Leary and his support team made a first-time direct e-mail response to me and claimed that the problem has finally been resolved with the latest update on the ForexAutopilot EA. Click here for more info and the new EA should be updated in the member's area.

I also took this opportunity to raise my point regarding the EA trading and its potential system drawdown in hope to figure out the working of this forexautopilot ea. We've already seen quite a strong performance (in backtesting) of this EA as the Euro rode from the 1.48 level to the current level of 1.54 !

I directed the following question to Marcus:

Q1: At what point the EA decides to take a loss and what is the acceptable drawdown for this EA?

Here is his full response:
It decided to stop according to signals from inner indicators. ForexAutopilot EA does not use fixed stop loss. It uses smart settings for stop loss to close losing trades according to inner indicators. EA with fixed stop loss will finally loose your deposit if trading against trend. Our ForexAutopilot EA does not have such problem. when i backtested i saw drawdown near 20-30% if trading with low risk.

I recommend to trade FAPS ea:
0.1 lot for deposit 1000-2000 usd
0.5 lot for deposit 5,000
1 lot for deposit 10,000

Earlier, I also sent some of my queries to Andreas:

Q2: May I ask what is the eurusd_m1.set? And where should it be placed plus how can we change the default parameter?

Q3. LotsRiskReductor – Defines the risk. The parameter default is 1 , and what does it means. At what point, the EA decides to take a loss?

Here is Andreas's reply:

eurusd_m1.set can be skipped. It contains default parameters to let user load them if he wants to use default parameters after changing EA settingsLotsRiskReductor

To let program use AutoLot management (it means that IE decides the lot size itself) the variable Lots should be set to zero. So LotsRiskReductor will define the risk size. LotsRiskReductor can be from 1 to 10. 1 means 10% of risk of deposit. 10 means 100% risk.

If you have any problem/issue regarding this forex autopilot ea, you can try its support team or forward me your queries. I will put up a Q&A for everyone to read.

Patiently Waiting Thursday

For the first time, we had no 'tradable' signal in all three sessions, i.e. London opening, New York opening and late hours. (See our trading hours)

We had four 'golden' signals in yesterday's late-hour session. Those signals continued to yield 100 -300 pips overnight as the yen-crosses markets continued to collapse till the start of our first London opening session. Those moves were rare and extreme, but still in line with our day trading analysis.

Here is another useful trend analysis tool which share a resemblance with our approach:

Smart Scan Chart Analysis (by Market Club) also confirmed yen-crosses markets (such as the GBPJPY, AUDJPY, etc.) are currently remaining in the confines of a longer-term downtrend.

Timing is very important in forex trading. I found out that the FK signal software has the 'habit' of selling the intraday high or buying the intraday low. I have no problem with that as long as the signals are in line with the sentiment indicator. Today, I have successfully avoided them by keeping my trading account safe so far.

Also by sticking to my daily technical bias, the market has reversed my earlier losses and made me a small gain of 5 pips on yesterday's AUDJPY trade. Price volatility is expected to continue in the yen-crosses pairs and more successful trading opportunities can be found in the major pairs.

Market conditions became tricky since last friday. I was again disappointed at the signal software which could not give us a short signal on the JPY markets in the late hours. No matter how, I will still stick firmly to the plan for the mean time.

Question from Reader: How to (Strategically) Use the Forex Killer System

Q: I just purchased Forex killer about a week ago and did a demo to get my feet wet. I know that I was not using it correctly because I was basing my entry soley on the 15 minute chart, in no mans land time around 1AM Central and using the long and short term advice. Here is the problem...it worked and it scared me to death because I know that I am not using a system that I understand. I made 10 pips and 22 pips using this system on the EUR/USD.

I don't understand what is exactly long term and short term signal. I don't understand why it would give me a Buy on both long and short term in on the 15 minute chart and then on the 1 hour chart show sell on both. I know I am missing some kind of set up system here. Would your blog help me understand the tool better and help me set up a strategy I can hang with?

A: In my opinion, using the forex killer software alone is not enough. Thru random testing, it may sometimes work or it may not, depending on how you look at it. I adopt a consistent day trading approach to trade the forex market day in day out, using the forex killer system. I also recognise the need of understanding the market trends and the latest fundamental development. Hence, I analyse the market sentiment technical data on a daily basis plus enter/exit forex-killer setups at different fixed trading sessions. I also read into in real-time the actual number of economic news releases. Thru this combined approach, I am able to gain to a better advantage in forex trading rather than simply applying the forex killer software 'randomly'.

Buy the rumours, sell the news. Traders were buying into the USD weakness before the non-farm payrolls report (in fact throughout this week) and took their profits soon after the news releases despite having a very bad job number. We managed to stay out this volatility and only followed two signals in the extended late session which yielded a 20-pip profit overall. This gave us, for the week, a total of 210 pips on the major pairs and another 15 pips on the yen-crosses pairs.

Latest From Marcus: Alligator 129 Error Solved ?!

After raising my concerns (& other site readers too) with the ForexAutopilot EA, I just received a reply from Marcus Leary, the program developer. Check this out.

Hi there Lloyd. Marcus here. I heard from andy about your problems
with faps ea. We are working hard here to find the solution to this
Alligator 129 error.

I think finally we have found the solution. I attach the fixed copy
to you. You can run it on Euro/Usd on M1. You can also backtest it. I
think we have optimized it rather good and Faps EA is making good
profit on history and on real account. you know it is really difficult
to make EA that REALLY WORKs with great profit on live and demo and
does not give huge losses. i hope you will like our EA and its
results.

I also thank you for help and support of our clients. it's much
appreciated. looking forward to long cooperation with scoutforex.

He also sent me a latest EA, named ForexAutoPilot_Universal.ex4 . Hope you guys can re-download this EA (still goes with old name ForexAutoPilot.ex4) from the main site, i.e. using your bookmarked/saved member links after your purchase. And I hope the problem is now solved :-)

Another disappointment on the yen-crosses pair. Therefore, I would highly recommend you to trade the five major currency pairs instead of the five yen-crosses pair due to the recent price volatility in the Japanese yen.

Simply look at these statistics since last week:

Major currency pairs: UP 390 PIPS 10 winners /11 trades

Yen-crosses pairs: DOWN 115 pips 4 winners /9 trades

Meanwhile, I will add another monitoring session for the yen-crosses pairs on the Member Sites in order to search for other trading hours with better return. I think I know where to look. Stay tune for more updates.
